Information Systems Major

The IST information systems major is designed for individuals interested in pursuing careers related to the analysis, design, development, implementation, and support of computer information systems and technology in organizations. If you are interested in computers and business, you are a good candidate for this major!

After graduation, information systems students usually enter the industry in network administration, hardware support, web development, or database administration. Other students have entered graduate school.

Here are the requirements for the information systems major:

  1. Complete the following 36 credits:
    • IST 140, 145, 146, 217, 252, 355, 356, three credits of 421 and two semesters of 495. RES 495 and 496 for 1 credit each may be substituted for the two semesters of IST 495.
    • Six additional information science and technology credits at or above 246, excluding IST 326, 401, 421, and 495.
    • One credit of ATV 137.
  2. Complete a minor or second major. This will be selected based on the student's interests and in consultation with a member of the IST faculty. Due to the ubiquitous nature of computing, any field will be considered. Suggested fields include business, art, theater, or music.
