Major Options
Doane's Accounting Major prepares students for taking certification examinations, e.g.:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or
- CMA (Certified Management Accountant) exams;
however, accountants can also have successful careers without these certifications.
Students qualify to take the CMA exam upon completion of the accounting major, while students considering the CPA exam must meet state-mandated requirements (which can be completed in four years at Doane) in addition to completion of the accounting major.
Academic advisers at Doane work closely with students who are considering certification options. Most of Doane's accounting majors take the CPA Exam upon graduation (with 150 hours) after four years, and begin their careers immediately. However, should a student choose to pursue a master's degree, Doane's accounting program also prepares students to compete very successfully in graduate school.
