The ceramics classroom in the Hixson Lied art building.Students at Doane interested in art as a career will find that faculty teach art from a holistic, liberal arts perspective. This way, you will not only develop your creative skills and talents in a variety of media, but you'll also understand why art is important. You'll consider lessons from the past as you visualize the future. And ultimately, you will be fully prepared for the career of your choice.



We provide you with the atmosphere and assistance you need to succeed as an art student:

  • We keep classroom sizes small - introductory courses average 15 students and advanced courses range from 6-10 students
  • Extended hours are offered for students working on projects
  • Facilities include:
    • studios for ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting and print making
    • semi-private studio space for advanced students
    • two large ceramic kilns and two etching presses
    • video and slide library
    • graphic design and Macintosh computer lab
  • Three full-time art faculty and two adjunct instructors have expertise and interests that include:
    • painting
    • ceramics
    • textiles
    • photography
    • graphic design
    • art history and theory
