This is a 15-day interterm to Ghana, West Africa. You will visit sites where Peace Corps volunteers and the Nebraska Conference UCC partnership have made economic, educational, and environmental positive change; hike in two national parks, one with a lovely waterfall and pond for swimming and another with swinging bridges over the rainforest; tour at least one slave castle along the coast; wander through a weaving village; shop in traditional markets; listen and dance with musicians; share experiences with students at Peki Seminary, a small two-year institution with approximately 35 post-high school students; complete a mission service project in either Peki or Dzemeni; and participate in daily discussion sessions. You may choose to take drumming lessons, spend time in Ghanaian kitchens, or begin studies in the Ewe language.
Learning Objectives : You will be able to 1) identify commonalities and differences among Ghanaians and one's self through established face-to-face connections with Ghanaians; 2) describe the impact and opportunities of Peace Corp and Nebraska Conference UCC projects; 3) understand Ghanaian history and culture. This experience will enhance your understanding of the value of volunteer service.
