We are happy to hear that you are interested in chemistry
at Doane College. Our major is a well-designed,
broadly based selection of courses which allow our
students to choose many paths after graduation. At Doane,
your education is not limited to the classroom and
laboratory. Our faculty’s primary interest is to maximize the
development of your talents. Our courses are designed to help you learn to act independently in the laboratory and to think like a chemist. We work hard to enhance your oral and written communication skills, since these are vital tools for success in science. We will encourage you to gain further experience through internships in a commercial lab or through research experience on our campus or elsewhere. Chemical instruments are vital to your education in chemistry, and Doane provides access to an outstanding array of modern instruments. You will begin hands-on experience with them during your first year. Additionally, our students have excellent access to both personal computers and terminals connected to Doane’s larger network. Our $10.2 million Lied Science and Mathematics Building provides an exceptional environment for study, research, and interaction. A chemistry major is not just for people intending to become professional chemists. Our graduates have created an exceptional record of success in excellent positions in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, chemistry Ph.D programs, professional schools, and even broader fields such as patent law.
