Career and Internship Opportunities
Doane Biology students are interested in pursuing careers a wide variety of professional programs, including medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, optometry, nursing, pharmacy medical technology, biomedical research and other allied health fields, as well as veterinary medicine, conservation, forestry, fish and wildlife, ecology and evolutionary research among others. In addition to seeking professional degrees, many of our students seek employment in the large concentration of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in Lincoln and Omaha as well as with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and other conservation organizations and agencies.
To help our students narrow their list of potential careers, we offer biology majors a career seminar in which students discuss educational and career experiences with visiting professionals representing a broad array of biological fields.
To help prepare our students for their chosen careers, we help them identify job-shadowing and internship opportunities that expose them to careers they may be considering. There is nothing like real-world experience to help students decide if a career will be a good fit.
Qualified Biology students can plan to start their professional program after only three years at Doane. We can help them arrange to finish the Doane degree while beginning the new program. We have specific arrangements for this with Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln for nursing students, and with Palmer Chiropractic School.
