Doane College ranked in the first tier of the nation's liberal arts colleges and placed among the top Nebraska colleges in the 2012 edition of "Best Colleges" rankings by U.S.News & World Report. The annual college guide categorizes schools by mission and/or region. Doane ranked 165th out of 252 liberal arts colleges nationally, which emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half their degrees in the arts and sciences.

The rankings, which include more than 1,400 schools nationwide, are available at www.usnews.com/colleges, and were also published in U.S.News & World Report.

Doane College is also among the best colleges and universities in the Midwest, according to the Princeton Review. The LogoNew York City-based education services company selected Doane as one of 153 institutions it recommends in its "Best in the Midwest" section on its Web site feature 2012 Best Colleges:  Region by Region.

For the third time, Doane College has been named to the Colleges of Distinction guide for 2011-2012. Colleges of Distinction selects schools "that demonstrate its commitment to the four distinctions: engagement,  teaching, community and outcomes." Doane is one of five schools in Nebraska selected to receive this honor, which is bestowed upon less than 200 colleges and universities across the country.

In Washington Monthly's college rankings, which emphasize both academics and service, Doane College placed first among Nebraska's liberal arts colleges and 130th nationally. Created as an alternative to U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings, Washington Monthly editors say the methodology behind their rankings measures "not just what colleges can do for you, but what colleges are doing for the country." The rankings were based on a school's contribution in three broad categories: social mobility, research and service.

Doane College was named to the 2010 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This is the fourth consecutive year that Doane has earned this honor  - the highest federal recognition a college can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement. Honorees are chosen based on a series of selection factors, including the scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses. More information on the program and the honorees are available at www.nationalservice.gov .

In 2008, Doane College became the first college in Nebraska to be named a Groundwater Guardian Green Site by the Groundwater Foundation. The designation is in recognition of the college's groundwater and environmental stewardship. Doane earned the exclusive designation based on its current practices related to water use, pesticide and fertilizer management, and pollution prevention.
