Doane College

Financial Aid

Our Position on Federal Student Loans at Doane College

Currently, the student loan industry is undergoing scrutiny for questionable financial dealings between some colleges and lenders. In short, there are a few bad apples.

Rest assured, we at Doane College are in no way compensated or rewarded for working with lenders/banks.  In fact, we do not even provide "preferred" lender lists. Families should choose the lender/bank that works best for them.

Unsure how to pick? Here are a few things to keep in mind as you make your decision:

Weigh the back-end benefits carefully.  Interest rates are federally determined, so really it's important to think about how the lender will treat you when it's time for repayment.

Don't be taken by dazzling marketing.  Some lenders send out expensive marketing pieces, but that doesn't mean they are the best choice for you.  Plus, that marketing has to be paid for from somewhere.

Be wary of e-mail.  Students sometimes receive e-mails regarding loan information from questionable sources.  Use the old adage "if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is."

Consider your local lender/banker.  Over the years, Doane has developed solid working relationships with many local lending institutions that specialize in helping students and parents understand their guaranteed student loans and the many repayment options. If challenges arise, the Financial Aid Office may be able to assist you.   Of course, Doane will process any Stafford loan application that we receive.

If you have any questions about your student loans at Doane, please call us at 800.333.6263.

If you are still searching for a student loan lender, please contact the lender/bank directly with questions about repayment options - that's where the savings really happen!

Financial Aid is available for degree seeking undergraduate and Masters of Counseling and Management students enrolled at the Crete, Grand Island or Lincoln campuses.  Degree seeking students in the Masters of Education Curriculum and Instruction or the Masters of Educational Leadership program are also eligible for financial aid when enrolled at one of the following federally approved locations (click link to view) .

Students attending classes on these campuses who request consideration for financial aid should complete the federal financial aid application process no later than six weeks prior to the beginning of classes.

If you have any questions, a financial aid adviser will be able to assist you.
