When You Arrive on CampusAfter arriving on campus, plug your computer into the network port in your room. You will then be asked to register your computer on the Doane College network. For a video tutorial on this process click here . To speed up this process, we ask that you perform the steps listed on the Preparing for Doane ResNet page before you leave home. During the registration process you will be required to do the following:
- Register your computer to your name and download a scanning agent to enforce software requirements on our network.
- Install a Doane purchased version of Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. Our version will send updated definition files to your computer as soon as the new definitions are released. For Vista Users you will need to set up these update yourself. It may be necessary to uninstall your internet security suite or firewall. Typically these programs are not configured correctly to allow the computer to function properly on our network.
- Verify that you have Spybot Search & Destroy installed and that it is up to date.
- Remove known Peer-2-Peer applications such as Kazaa, Morpheus, MyTunes, and Lime Wire. These applications typically install spyware applications on a computer and they cause other problems on our network. If you would like to download music, we suggest you use iTunes or Napster2. Legal music download programs are open on our network.
- Verify you have the latest operating system updates installed at Windows Update (Note: this may not work with mozilla firefox.)
